Gary Ervin deservedly named NBL MVP

Guard Gary Ervin of the Wollongong Hawks has taken out his first NBL MVP award after a stellar 2010-11 campaign.
 
Ervin was a standout best point guard in the league with his stellar play lifting the Hawks to 15-13 record, which saw them just miss out on a playoff berth.
 
Ervin was the league leader in points per game with 20.1 and was fourth in league for assists with 4.5 a game over his 27-game season.
 
Runner up for the Andrew Gaze Trophy was Sydney Kings big-man Julian Khazzouh. Khazzouh was also having an outstanding season with averages of 17.4 points and 10 rebounds a game. Khazzouh was second in the league in blocks, with 1.8 a game in 27 games.

The New Zealand Breakers play the Perth Wildcats in Auckland on Thursday to begin the 2011 NBL playoffs. The Taipans and Crocs will begin their first round series on Friday in Townsville.
