In a shock move, the Melbourne Tigers of the ANBL have hired 2010 NBL Coach of the Year and former Townsville Crocs coach Trevor Gleeson in a multi-year deal.

Gleeson signed a three-year deal on Thursday afternoon, just six days after resigning from his head-coaching job with the Townsville Crocs.

Gleeson is seen, throughout the league as one of the best and focuses his teams on the defensive end of the court.

The news is disappointing for former interim coach Daryl McDonald, who was eager to continue into the 2011-12 season.

Gleeson has said that the move to Melbourne was so that his wife, who is currently fighting cancer, could receive the top-notch treatment available in the Victorian capital.

The move is a very positive one for the Tigers as they look to rebound from a disappointing 2010-11 season.

Gleeson is expected to evaluate the playing-list in the coming days.

Current Tigers MVP and former League MVP, Corey Williams has yet to receive a contract for the coming season.
