The IRB has done Robbie Deans, his Wallabies, and the Australian sporting public a huge favour by overlooking the two most controversial referees on the planet – Kiwi Bryce Lawrence and South African Jonathan Kaplan – for the four-Test home series in June.

Rugby World Cup final referee Craig Joubert will control the first and third Tests against Wales.

The South African is by far the best in an era of ordinary whistlers and is deserving of a series between the world number-two ranked Wallabies and the current Six-Nations Grand Slam champions.

The full appointments are:

June 5 v Scotland at Newcastle – referee Jaco Peyper (South Africa) – assistants Joubert, Keith Brown (NZ) and Kiwi Vinny Munro TMO.

June 9 v Wales at Suncorp – referee Joubert, Brown, Garratt Williamson (NZ) and Munro TMO.

June 16 v Wales at Etihad Stadium – referee Chris Pollock (NZ), Joubert, Williamson and Munro TMO.

June 23 v Wales at Allianz Stadium – referee Joubert, Peyper, Jonathon White (NZ) and Munro TMO.
