Finals hopes go on the line tonight as the Wests Tigers host the St George Illawarra Dragons in a huge clash for both teams. Join us for NRL live scores and blog from 7.30pm AEST.
The Tigers currently sit in eighth position on the NRL ladder after Monday night’s 25-point win over the Eels.
Trailing by 16 points early in the first half, the Tigers finally clicked into gear in attack to dispose of a Parramatta side that fell away badly in defence.
While such a win should give Tim Sheens’ men confidence, the Tigers left a lot to be desired in defence and need to muscle up considerably without possession if they are a chance of making an impact come September.
The Dragons are coming off a bad loss to the Roosters last week in a match they really should have won if they were to consider themselves serious finals contenders.
St George Illawarrra however were out enthused and outplayed by Sydney and need to reignite their campaign tonight against the dangerous Tigers.
Prediction
If the Dragons are any hope of winning tonight, they simply have to start well against the Tigers.
The Dragons have performed poorly in attack this season and really struggle to peg back deficits.
This was evident last week against the Roosters, who led 14-nil before eventually going on to secure a comfortable 26-10 victory.
If the Red V can hit the lead early they are capable of grinding their way toward victory, as evidenced by their fine win against Melbourne a fortnight ago.
The Tigers, meanwhile, possess no such problems pegging back deficits, but will be in for a tough night if they defend as poorly as they did on Monday night.
The Dragons will fancy their chances of outmuscling the Tigers upfront, given that the Eels did so very easily during the first half.
If the Tigers do improve in defence however, the attacking creativity of Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, Marika Koroibete and Tim Moltzen should be enough for the Tigers to get home tonight.
