Enigmatic NSW and Australian cricket allrounder Moises Henriques declared he had tossed a gorilla-like weight from his shoulders after finally getting his maiden first-class century on Thursday.
Henriques 25, did it in style too, with a whopping 161 not out against Tasmania at Bankstown Oval.
It was the 58th innings of his first-class career, which has just entered a seventh season and sporadically delivered the results hinted at by his undeniable talent and potential.
“I’d scored nine 50s before that and found ways to get out in all of them,” said Henriques after smashing 15 fours and four sixes.
“I think to go on with it and get that first 100 is certainly I’d call it a gorilla (off my back) really.”
The hard-hitting batsmen and fast medium bowler has already made one T20 and two one-day appearances for Australia and wants to complete the set.
“It’s a childhood dream of mine to play Test cricket for Australia,” Henriques said.
He averages 27 with both bat and ball and said he wanted to be a genuine allrounder contributing in both disciplines rather than favouring one.
Henriques only averaged eight with the bat in a short stint with Welsh county Glamorgan in bowler-friendly conditions during the off-season.
He relished his return to Australia, scoring 78 in both the Blues one and four day fixtures against Western Australia earlier this month.
“I’m just a little bit more relaxed and not so concerned about the past and what’s happened before,” Henriques said.
