Socceroos coach Holger Osieck has named a 19-player squad to face Romania in a friendly next Wednesday.

Osieck has recalled a host of senior Socceroos who missed Australia’s 2013 East Asian Cup qualifying campaign in December to face Romania, currently 33rd in the FIFA World Rankings.

After strong performances for Middlesbrough this season, Rhys Williams returns to the Socceroos setup for the first time since picking up a serious knee injury in August last year.

Jason Davidson, Adam Federici and Michael Zullo were also recalled by Osieck, though Michael Zullo’s FC Utrecht teammate Adam Sarota will miss after rupturing his ACL in Utrecht’s 2-1 win over Willem II on Sunday.

Romania sit equal-second with Hungary, behind The Netherlands, in Group D of European Qualification groups for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with three wins from four matches.

The Tricolorii are managed by Victor Piturca and led by former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu and will pose a stern test for the Australians, as they look for a strong performance to help guide them to their first FIFA World Cup appearance since 1998.

Wednesday’s match will be played at Estadio Ciudad de Malaga in Malaga, Spain and will kick off at 7.00am AEDT.
