The South Sydney Rabbitohs are looking every bit the premiership contender but face a tricky assignment tonight when they host the improving North Queensland Cowboys. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEST.
A three try blitz early in the second half against the Broncos last week was enough for the Rabbitohs to secure their seventh win of the season.
South Sydney were not at their best against Brisbane, particularly in the first half when they dropped too much possession.
The class of Greg Inglis, John Sutton, Issac Luke and Adam Reynolds however was enough for the Rabbitohs to beat a spirited Broncos side.
Tonight’s match against the Cowboys however should present the Rabbitohs with more of a challenge.
The Cowboys have won their past two matches, and although they struggled to beat Parramatta last week, this is the type of contest that stars Johnathon Thurston and Matt Bowen relish.
After an indifferent start to the year, expect North Queensland to really turn up tonight in a bid to prove that they remain a true premiership contender.
Prediction
This should be a cracking game of football between two teams blessed with attacking arsenal.
Rabbitohs halves and NSW Origin hopefuls Adam Reynolds and John Sutton will be keen to test themselves against QLD and Australia test maestro Thurston.
Given that this is a big game, one expects Thurston to really play close to his best tonight.
If Thurston is allowed to fire, the Cowboys certainly possess the artillery in their arsenal to cause the upset tonight.
There are also several tantalising match-ups upfront with Sam Burgess, Ben Te’o, Roy Asotasi and David Tyrell up against Australia test props Matt Scott and James Tamou.
While the Cowboys can certainly match the Rabbitohs depth in attack, South Sydney possess by far the better defence and this may very well prove to be the difference between the sides tonight.
South Sydney has defended brilliantly in recent weeks, and are fast becoming a team that loves to absorb pressure.
The Cowboys on the other hand remain fairly easy to crack compared to the likes of Melbourne and Manly and may just get torn apart if they offer a repeat of last week’s performance against the Eels.
North Queensland however should be expected to muscle up tonight, meaning this contest could very well go down to the wire.
On form, the Rabbitohs terrific balance in attack and defence should get them over the line against the dangerous Cowboys.
