West Australian fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile has received the dream news he will stay on with Australia’s Test squad for at least the road into the Ashes.

Coulter-Nile has been part of Australia’s Champions Trophy touring party, and while not officially in the Ashes squad, he will now remain in the UK for the coming weeks heading into the first Test against England at Trent Bridge on July 10.

The 25-year-old has been bowling well in the nets so far on tour and will help boost the preparations of Australia’s under-fire batsmen for the onslaught of James Anderson and company.

Coulter-Nile is recognised as a great all-round talent with a good attitude around the group, and although Australia’s bowling depth is strong, he’ll have a chance to push his barrow for a Test debut if an opportunity arises during the back-to-back Ashes series ahead.

Despite being in the selectors sights for some time, Coulter-Nile has just the one T20 international to his name.

He averages 27 with the ball in 23 first class matches.

National Selector John Inverarity has described him as one of the best fieldsmen in the country.

WA teammate Adam Voges believes Coulter-Nile has finally found his consistency.

“I think everyone’s known of his talent, but maybe he’s been a little inconsistent in the past and he’s just starting to find that now,” Voges told AAP.

“He’s an extremely talented cricketer.

“I’m not sure if he’s staying on (for Ashes) but he’s been really impressive.

“If you see any of our net sessions he’s running in and bowling fast and swinging the ball at the moment so if he did get an opportunity I’m sure he’d do well.

“I’ve got no doubt he will get an opportunity at some stage and I’m sure he’ll do well.”
