Gold Coast’s midfield young gun Jaeger O’Meara has committed to the AFL club for the next three seasons.
The 19-year-old, who is the hot favourite to win this year’s AFL Rising Star award, was initially signed until the end of next season but is now locked in until the end of 2016.
O’Meara, who was drafted by the Suns ahead of last season as an under-age recruit but was not allowed to play in the AFL until this season, has already displayed enormous potential.
He has played every game this season and averaged more than 22 disposals and four tackles, while kicking 10 goals.
O’Meara, who comes from Western Australia, said he felt completely at home on the Gold Coast and was excited about the success he felt was coming.
“I’m just rapt to re-sign with the Gold Coast Suns,” he said.
“The club showed enormous faith in me when I was recruited and in doing so provided me a great opportunity.
“We still have a heap of hard work ahead of us but I believe we have the chance to build something special here on the Gold Coast.
“That’s something I really want to be a part of.”
