2013 was a year of media scrutiny for the Bombers, a grand final birth for the Dockers and an expectedly good year for the Cats.

Essendon
A reasonably good season for the bombers, only marred by the ASADA supplements investigation and a huge drop off at the end of the season.

The highest the Bombers got on the ladder was second, which was a bloody good effort! A disappointing drop at the end of the season brought them down the seventh before they were dumped from the finals and officially finished ninth.

Rating – 7
They definitely improved from last season when they finished 11th. They were disappointing at the end of the season; it was understandable, as they were under so much media scrutiny and pressure. 7

2014 Prediction – I think the Bombers can improve even more next year.

They will have less pressure on them and will be able to focus on football a bit more. I think Mark Thompson will coach the Bombers next year, but knowing the Bombers, the banned James Hird will probably step in just before the finals.

2014 Ladder Position – 4-7
Next premiership chance – 2-3 years
Look out for – Michael Hibberd
Expect more brilliance from – Jobe Watson

Fremantle
It was a great year capped off by a grand final birth, only to be beaten by the best team all year, Hawthorn. The highlight of their season was probably when they beat Geelong at Simonds Stadium by 15 points in the Qualifying Final.

A really good season, although many people were surprised, but I certainly wasn’t, because after watching them beat the Cats at the MCG in last year’s finals series, I was pretty sure they would do well this year.

2014 Predictions – Expect an equally good season next year, although I’m not sure whether it was a good idea to pick up Colin Sylvia. Under the coaching of the steady Ross Lyon, they can definitely win the premiership.

2014 Ladder Position – 1-4
Next premiership chance – 0-3 years
Look out for – Lachie Neale
Expect more brilliance from – Nat Fyfe

Geelong
After all these years, everyone expects Geelong to have a great season, and it was no different this season, as they finished second and was only just beaten by the Hawks after leading by 20 points at three quarter time.

Joel Selwood had another brilliant season and Stevie Motlop kicked some wonderful goals

Rating – 8.5
Another great season for the Cats, although they will be disappointed with the way they finished. Finished second and beat the top team twice during the season, 8.5

2014 Predictions – With the delistings of James Podsiadly and Paul Chapman, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Geelong forward line struggled a bit. If Geelong secure Taylor Adams from Greater Western Sydney and another player it could help a lot.
