What a beautiful day at the Gabba

What an incredible, beautiful and utterly annihilating day it was yesterday at the Gabba.

It was absolute heaven, I doubt many could peel their eyes away from the play. We were ruthless, we went at them hard, and got what was needed. In many ways we made up for a little self destruction after lunch on day one.

I’m pretty sure England’s arrogance got in the way of them expecting Australia to play in this sort of fashion.

They were stunned, they were bewildered that they had found themselves to be in this situation.

Australia have not only gained a advantage on the score board, but have gained a major psychological advantage as well by this performance.

It is going to be real hard for England to come back from here unless we go through any sort of self destruction phase. Michael Clarke needs to rally the boys in, and keep the focus.

The job isn’t done yet, but this is a major step in the right direction.

Not in my wildest every dreams did I expect us to bowl England out for 136. 136. Us. Australia. It’s ridiculous.

Besides the obvious beauty of a performance from Mitch Johnson, massive credit has to be shown to Nathan Lyon and Chris Rogers, who fielded and bowled to near perfection.

Steve Smith took three consecutive catches that dispelled Matt Prior, Ian Bell and Joe Root in quick concession which was the dagger in England’s lion heart.

And the guarding of Brad Haddin to dismiss Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott was another solid effort.

The most exciting wicket of the day was when us convicts dismissed the arrogance of Kevin Pietersen. The Dave Warner celebration which followed was a heart melter.

I’ve never celebrated a wicket with such force.

Day two of play has brought me such delight and excitement, that I stood on my desk and belted out Cmon, Aussie Cmon with my colleagues in my baggy green hat with such pride, and joy.

This series is just a day old, but if we continue to play in such ruthless fashion, with this feisty Australian passion we know and love, then why the hell not can we not reclaim the urn and recapture the beauty of cricket in Australia?
