A shot with the Socceroos is driving Millwall defender Shane Lowry, as the countdown to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil takes place.

Overlooked for the national team under Holger Osieck, Lowry is hopeful of getting an opportunity under new head coach Ange Postecoglou.

The Perth-born and raised player has been in English football since 2005.

Arriving at Aston Villa, he went on loan spells to numerous clubs, such as Leeds United and Sheffield, before joining Millwall permantently in 2012.

The 24-year old has made more than 60 appearances since moving to the Den.

Despite having Irish parents and having represented Ireland at junior levels, Lowry remains a passionate Australian and has no regrets over going with the green and gold.

With left back a continual problem for the Socceroos and centre back also an issue, Lowry could be a solution in either position.

The six-foot one West Australian has experience in both roles and also is adept from dead ball situations.

Lowry had a sensational 2012-2013 season, playing in 45 matches for Millwall, the second most for the club after David Forde.

While the Lions struggled in the Championship, they did reach the semi-final of the FA Cup, and the fullback scored one goal and recorded two assists.

This season, under a new manager in Steve Lomas after Kenny Jackett left, Lowry has managed just eight appearances, seven starting and one off the bench.

I chatted with Lowry about his Millwall career, playing for Australia and his thoughts on the A-League.
