I won't quit: Spurs' EPL boss

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas insists he will not walk away from White Hart Lane after his position was again placed under scrutiny following Sunday’s 5-0 mauling by Liverpool.

It was Spurs’ heaviest home defeat in 16 years and left them five points below the Champions League positions in seventh place in the Premier League.

Villas-Boas has already seen his side beaten 3-0 at home by West Ham United and humiliated 6-0 at Manchester City this season, but he said he was not concerned about his position.

“I have to get down to work,” he said when asked about his future. “That’s the only thing I can focus on. The call on that decision (his future) is not mine.

“I won’t resign and I’m not a quitter. The only thing I can do is work hard with the players and try and get the results back on track.”

In his defence, Villas-Boas pointed to Spurs improving after losing at City, winning twice and drawing with Manchester United.

He also said that the team’s cup form is evidence of their quality.

Spurs face West Ham in the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday and have also qualified for the last 32 in the Europa League.

“We all have high expectations this season, and we still have them. We’re not far off. But the distance is increasing from those Champions League spots. This kind of result makes it difficult to bounce back,” he added.

“We’ve done it in the past. I have belief in the players and we’ll try and do that again. Our League Cup and Europa League form is completely different.

“We still dream of winning a trophy this season, but the reality is we’re still completely far off our expectations in the Premier League.”

Villas-Boas said he has no scheduled meeting with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, but claimed there is no problem with Spurs’ board.

“This is a top-four squad but in our Premier League form we are not there,” he explained.

“It’s not the points tally that’s the problem, it’s the expression of the results.”
