Rising Aussie star Thanasi Kokkinakis faces the biggest test of his flourishing career when he meets world no. 1 Rafael Nadal in the second round of the Australian Open. Join us for live scores and commentary from 4.00pm AEDT.

Nadal will be looking to secure passage into the third round by getting past his second Australian opponent in as many matches.

Australian fans will be hoping that tonight’s contest goes on a lot longer than Nadal’s opening match against aussie hope Bernard Tomic.

Nadal only played the one set against Tomic before the young Australian retired hurt because of a groin problem.

Kokkinakis now has the opportunity to establish himself as the new shining star of Australian tennis with a solid showing against Nadal on centre court.

Ranked 570 in the world, Kokkinakis managed to upset Igor Sijsling in four sets in the opening round of his maiden Australian Open campaign.

From what we have seen thus far, Kokkinakis is certainly a talented player who is brimming with potential. At just 17 years of age, the young Australian has the world at his feet.

His serve and forehand are shots that have the potential to push Nadal around the court if the Australian decides to let loose with his shot-making.

Although Kokkinakis should be expected to give it his all today, a victory over Nadal remains beyond him at this stage of his young career.

The Spaniard’s experience on the big stage should be enough to see him through to the third round.
