When a guy comes in for a game or two he is expected to perform straight away and the pressure gets to him, often resulting in failure.

Craig Simmons has been dominating grade cricket in WA for some time; he got his chance with the Scorchers after many years in and around the NSW/WA, and sides this was his last to perform chance.

A guy who many would call unfit, this was not going to stop Craig from showing his doubters wrong.

After failing the first three games, this was it his last chance.

Langer was not going to let him off this time, the supporters were cursing, ‘not Simmons again!’

Simmons again, that was the chant after the innings on Wednesday night.

After dominating the boys from the south, it wasn’t enough for the Big Ship.

As the boys in pink bowled with aggression, the ball flew aggressively over their heads.

As he struck 10 sixes in just 28 balls in an incredible sprint to a century for Craig.

The more angry Josh Hazlewood got, the quicker the ball was flying for sixes.

Starc was next, Lee came in with fire in his eyes, as balls were being thrown wide. Even the wide yorker Lee had been speaking about as his best ball was ineffective.

To add even more injury to insult, Cosgrove and Abbott were involved in one of the worst efforts in the field in a long while.

At the end, ‘Simmo’ was run out after risking his own game to help the team; he showed he had the fitness in the end.

All I have heard is that Craig was a one-hit wonder, but that will never be uttered again.

As he slotted yet another six, it was official: the one-hit wonder was a two-hit wonder.

His name may not still get too much attention from IPL teams, but it will be pencilled in after these two performances.

With guys like Dunk and Simmons being no more than players to add depth in their state sides, it makes me really feel glad for the growth of the game.

Many cricket traditionalists have their TV off while the Twenty20s are on, but I believe that with stories like these, there is a hope for all three formats still.

If we see Dunk, Simmons or even Nathan Rimmington around the national team then I will be more then happy to say that the storyline of the Twenty20 game is finally getting emotional.

It’s starting to become the old boys game, the second chance game, and it’s getting us to appreciate what we have in this fantastic game.
