Ryan Harris may only have picked up two wickets for the match in Centurion, but his work ethic, consistency and accurate new ball bowling have been the perfect support for the left arm quickie, Mitchell Johnson.

His ability to keep the batsman on guard with his gritty line and length and tidy new ball bowling, in both the Ashes series in England and the return leg at home, is testament to his improvement as a cricketer.

Harris has now taken 95 wickets now in 22 Tests with an average of 22. With 46 wickets in the last ten tests against the Poms, Harris has now become the world No.3 ranked bowler due to his overall consistency.

Notable achievements include his seven wickets against the Poms in England, and another two great performances of 6/47 and 5/25 again against England in Perth in 2010 and Adelaide 2013 respectively.

Possibly the most important change in Ryano’s career came when he moved states from South Australia to Queensland.

After having a fantastic Shield season with the Bulls he was chosen for the Test side in 2009. He has always struggled to remain fit and healthy, however when in the side Harris has been brilliant for the Australians.

Harris was excellent for Australia before the sudden turn around, and that is what has been so impressive about his performance.

Like Peter Siddle, he has been very consistent for the Australians and is always a dangerous bowler to face when first stepping into the middle.

An example of this was the brilliant ball he bowled to Alastair Cook in the first ball of the second innings at the WACA. His ability to move the ball in the air and off the pitch makes him a deadly bowler all over the world.

In England, he bowled extremely well, as we would of expected with the conditions and his type of bowling. In Australia he was again consistent and very effective throughout the second innings of all matches, especially in Adelaide.

Now for Harris it is a matter of remaining healthy and Cricket Australia managing his game time wisely.

For the first time in a long time Harris has played six games in a row, and you would think he would be playing the next Test. If Australia win however, maybe it is wise to give him a well deserved rest in Cape Town.

It has been clear from the beginning that Ryano has been a team-oriented man.

As a supportive and optimistic individual, his presence around the Australians team is huge as he offers both leadership and a valuable new ball bowler who can also dig deep when times are tough.

For Australia to continue this dominance over the world, they need to keep Ryan Harris fit as he is a bowler who will always put in for you, in victory or defeat.
