LISTEN: Sky Blues coach blasts officials after two non-penalties, denied goal in SF exit
Two non-penalties and a denied goal had Ufuk Talay furious as Sydney FC crashed out of the semi-finals.
Sydney FC is set to face-off against English Premier League giants Newcastle United and West Ham United when they travel to New Zealand in the lead up to the 2014/15 A-League season.
Following the success of the recent Liverpool and Manchester United tours to Australia, Newcastle and West Ham are heading to New Zealand for the ‘Football United Tour 2014’ during which they will each face both Sydney FC and the Wellington Phoenix.
The Sky Blues will first face Newcastle United at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin on Tuesday July 22, before squaring off against West Ham in the opening match of a huge doubler-header at Wespac Stadium in Wellington on July 26.
Wellington Phoenix play West Ham first up at Eden Park in Auckland on July 23, then Newcastle in the second game at the Westpac Stadium on July 26.
The occasion will mark the first time that two English Premier League clubs have played on the same ground on the same day, against different opposition in the Southern Hemisphere.
Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata stated: “We thank Wellington Phoenix for the opportunity to play against two of England’s most famous clubs.
“It is fantastic that the Phoenix is putting on this event and that Sydney FC has been asked to take part.
“Playing against two strong EPL sides will be a great experience for our players and will be an important part of our pre-season programme.
“You don’t often get the opportunity to have games against such quality opposition leading into the season.”
