A bitter-sweet week for Aussies Abroad saw four of the Socceroos’ attacking weapons score for their clubs, and an injury that could prove costly.

Mathew Leckie scored late for FSV Frankfurt, sealing the 2-0 victory for his 2. Bundesliga side.

He was tormenting down the left wing for most of the match, and got his goal in the 71st minute with a neat finish from just inside the box. It was the winger’s 10th goal for FSV this season in 31 appearances.

Ben Halloran was also on target in Fortuna Dusseldorf’s 4-2 win over Kaiserslautern. The youngster found the back of the net in the ninth minute when he received the ball in a congested box, dribbled around two players then chipped the ball into the top right hand corner for a brilliant finish.

Tim Cahill also scored in his return from injury with a trademark header for the New York Red Bulls.

But all three goals from our Aussies may be overshadowed by the results of a groin test that impending captain Mile Jedinak will receive today or tomorrow.

Jedinak was captaining Crystal Palace in the final match of the season when he limped off injured in the 59th minute. Reports state that a problem with his groin could have the screening midfielder out for up to four weeks.

It would be a huge blow for all Socceroo supporters, and indeed for Jedinak, who may be too old to feature in our next World Cup campaign. It is, however, a position we have a good amount of depth in, but his experience would still be sorely missed if the results do come back negative.

Our attacking duo in Switzerland both found game time for their respective clubs. Dario Vidosic pushed his World Cup hopes forward with a goal for Sion, and Oliver Bozanic came on for 44 minutes for Luzern as his team narrowly lost.

Both Trent Sainsbury and Curtis Good were absent from their squads, with Sainsbury in Australia to try and prove his fitness before the World Cup.

Matt Ryan kept a clean sheet for Clubbe Brugge, making several key saves against Standard Liege to keep his team in the title hunt.

James Holland played a full match in his team’s loss, meaning that Austria Wien won’t feature in European football next season.

Tomislav Mrcela played a full match in Croatia, as did Daniel McBreen and Jonas Salley in the Chinese Super League. Ryan McGowan did not feature for Shandong Lueng.

Dylan McGowan played a full match for Hearts in the Scottish Premier League, as did Jackson Irvine for Kilmarnock.

Bailey Wright was lively in Preston North End’s promotion battle, earning a yellow card in his team’s 1-1 draw with Rotherham United, which will be replayed on Friday.

Joshua Kennedy and Mitch Nichols were both absent from their J. League sides, as was Danny Vukovic at Vagalto Sendai.
