Fijian flyer Semi Radradra has extended his contract with the Parramatta Eels, keeping him in the blue and gold until the end of the 2018 season.

Hailing from Suva in Fiji, Radradra was working in Fijian mines in 2011 making $300 a month before being picked up by the Eels NYC side.

In Round 18 of 2013, ‘Semitrailer’ was unleashed. Not even a wooden spoon could stop Radradra’s ability to score, with the winger picking up five tries in just eight games for a side struggling to make it into the opposition half.

This season, in a much improved Eels side, Radradra has been able to showcase his try-scoring prowess nabbing 11 tries in 10 games. Semi stands a real chance of being 2014’s top try scorer and cementing his spot as an NRL regular.

Radradra’s dramatic rise to NRL prominence lies in his ability to push himself over the white line when other players would surrender. Shrugging off tacklers like flies, Semi is determined to make a few extra metres each hit. Jarryd Hayne’s recent match-winning try in State of Origin 1 was the result of a similar grit and determination to get over the white line.

And while grit is something Semi clearly has in spades, his 190 centimetres, 100 kilogram frame undoubtedly helps as well.

Only now starting to develop as an NRL player, I for one am ecstatic to see Semi Radradra stay in the NRL and look forward to more acts of awe-inspiring strength and determination.
