Gentlemen, it is with a heavy heart that I report we are losing this front. A sustained and well-planned rearguard action is required within six months, or I fear we cannot recover.

Latest dispatches indicate over 18,000 witnessed the AFL’s Gold Coast Suns on Saturday night, while last Monday night just 6500 supported the Titans.

On Sunday, in ideal weather, playing the hugely popular St George Illawarra Dragons, an equally miserable crowd attended. The final crowd figure came in at just over 12,000, a grim figure.

In addition, I regret to advise that this season is trending to be the worst ever. The numbers are damning. In their first two seasons our Titans averaged over 21,000 at home. Alas, every year since 2008 we have seen a steady decline down to 13,800.

This is a double disaster considering the population of the Gold Coast is growing every year by around two per cent.

In order to take up this battle, a market research firm must be employed to speak to the people of the Gold Coast and find out why the Titans are on the nose. In the meantime I recently supplied crayons to a class of 25 Gold Coast primary schoolers and asked them to draw the Suns and Titans jersey. Alas, not one child managed to draw anything remotely resembling the Titans’ jersey, while most kids did a decent job of drawing the Suns simple but effective design.

Many kids asked which Titans jersey to draw, there have been ‘too many’ they complained. One child wondered why so many of the players have the same surname of iSelect. Another thought they were the Gold Coast Jetstars. Whoever is in charge of the Titans uniform will be court-martialed!

The class teacher took me aside, almost in tears (a true league lady) and showed me a box full of free Titans tickets. Another court-martial is in order. I simply will not have our fans trained to wait for free tickets and tarnish the brand. We are worth paying to see, I’m sure of it. This free ticket fiasco is clearly a turn-off for the fans. This is their worst season ever!

We still hold the Senter of ExSearlence on the Gold Coast, it is a strong base. We can rebuild. Who will fight with me? Now let us burn these free tickets!
