Regarded as one of the best young talents in the world, Australian midfielder Casey Eastham is looking to help the Hockeyroos back up the Commonwealth Gold medalthey won at Delhi 2010.

Who Am I?
Casey Eastham first took up Hockey at the age of five and has never looked back. She was born in Woollongong, NSW, and showed talent from a young age, making a number of state and national teams at u18 level before first representing Australia at senior level at the age of 17.

Eastham plays as a midfielder which, as it is in most sports, is one of the more demanding positions in the game requiring great intensity and physical fitness. Eastham says that physicality and teamwork are her favourite aspects of the sport.

My Career
Eastham made her debut for the Hockeyroos in 2007, playing in the Oceania Cup, and earned a spot in the side for the 2008 Beijing Olympics campaign in which Australia ultimately finished fifth. Her coach at the time, Frank Murray, said she had the potential to be one of the best players in the world.

Eastham showed more of this potential in 2009, when she was named in the World All Stars team, and won the World Young Female Player of the Year award. She was named in the World All Stars Team again in 2010.

The Hockeyroos again finished 5th in the 2010 Argentina World Cup and the 2012 London Olympics, with Eastham being a key figure in the side on both occasions. In 2011 she was named the Hockeyroos Player of the Year.

Form at the Commonwealth Games
Still in the early stages of her career, Casey was part of the Hockeyroos team that won gold at the Delhi 2010 games, defeating New Zealand in the final with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out.

The Aussies have won the gold at the Commonwealth games the last two Games running, at Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010. Now a senior member of the Hockeyroos line up, Eastham will be looking to help the team make it three in a row at Glasgow 2014.

The Future
Although she’s already achieved a great deal as one of the Hockeyroos star players, Eastham has no intention of resting on her laurels and, coming into the peak years of her career, is keen to make her mark.

It starts with another Commonwealth Games appearance at Glasgow 2014 and hopefully another gold medal to share with the team, but after performing well in the 2014 World Cup Eastham is hoping the Hockeyroos can step it up over the next few years and head to the top of the world.

She has her sights set on gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and with the determination she’s shown so far in her career, anything’s possible.
