The New York Knicks have more losses than the Philadelphia 76ers, just let that sink in.

The Sixers are meant to be the worst team in the NBA, the Knicks are not. New York have lost 20 out of 24 games thus far, the Sixers have lost 19 out of 21 games.

Everyone knows the Sixers are tanking for draft picks, whereas the Knicks are just plain awful and wasting money on sub-par players.

In my opinion, Amar’e Stoudemire has been New York’s second best player (behind Carmelo Anthony) which may sound impressive on Stoudemire’s behalf, but it says more about how bad the Knicks are than how good Stoudemire has been.

Furthermore, Stoudemire is earning over $23 million this season. All that cash for a guy averaging 13 points and 7.5 rebounds is a perfect example as to why the Knicks are failing so miserably.

Another shining example of New York employing a short sighted view was when they traded for Andrea Bargnani before the start of last season.

New York handed over players to Toronto and three draft picks, including a 2016 first round draft pick. New York would love to have that pick under their belts right about now. With just how dreadful their future is looking, that pick might turn out to be an extremely valuable selection that New York no longer have.

To make matters even worse, Bargnani is yet to set foot on the court this season due to multiple injuries and in the meantime is chewing up $12 million in cap space.

The appointment of Phil Jackson as president is yet to produce the rewards so many fans thought it would. But there is only so much one man can do with the mess he inherited. One positive Jackson has produced was helping to keep ‘Melo in New York.

When Carmelo Anthony decided to re-sign with the Knicks over the off-season, he did so because he ‘believes’ in Phil Jackson’s plan, at least that’s what the media was told.

I’m not saying Anthony only stayed in New York because of the money, well actually maybe I am – because if he was so hungry for a ring he would’ve signed with Chicago or Houston. Sure, he wants to build something in New York, I understand that, but the building is not even under construction, yet it appears stuck in the demolition phase.

New York’s problems are only getting worse in fact. There have been recent murmurs that the players are starting to turn on each other. Anthony, Tim Hardaway and JR Smith are said to be at the centre of this mess.

If this is true, the problem in New York is much worse than many thought, and maybe it is finally time for New York to blow it up and start fresh.

With that being said, the contracts and lack of picks New York have make them a team with assets no team is interested in. The only saving grace for New York is that the horrific contracts of Stoudemire and Bargnani will be off the books at the end of this season.

Building a new team around ‘Melo and his $124-million contract is a must. Avoiding past mistakes is also necessary. But only time will tell if New York can raise banner number three during the Carmelo Anthony era.
