A poetic salute to Alastair Clarkson

It’s Round 11 and while the Hawks have a bye
Let’s take a moment to salute a very special guy
Alastair Clarkson’s the chap that I’m talking about
He’s a remarkable man – of that there’s no doubt.

Much has been said about Clarko and not all of it’s true
The media gets it wrong, or invents ‘truths’ as they do
But there’s a thing about our coach most people wouldn’t know
So let me tell a story that happened some years ago.

When Victoria was badly hit by the Black Saturday bushfire
There was loss of life and buildings, and things looked quite dire
A farmer was mending his fence when a stranger appeared on his land
He had come down from Melbourne to lend a helping hand.

The farmer scratched his head ‘cause he knew he’d seen the man before
He couldn’t remember where though so he studied him some more
The farmer was a Dees supporter and slowly it started to dawn
That the man standing before him was the head coach at Hawthorn.

This simple tale shows the calibre of the coach of our great team
A man who’s inspired multitudes and dared them to dream
He’s a Hawksome character, in both word and in deed
And he’d give the shirt off his back to help someone in need.

Sad to say we mostly hear negative things in the news
And the things we believe are those that we choose
But no matter what happens we shouldn’t be too fussed
Just remember this motto: ‘In Clarko we trust’.

Clarko, we applaud you!
