Nathan Fyfe may miss out on the Brownlow after he was reported for high contact in Fremantle’s 11-point loss to North Melbourne.

Fyfe slid into high contact with North’s Ben Jacobs during the game, seeing his shoulder collide with Jacobs head and was reported for the incident.

While it wouldn’t be considered enough to cause a suspension on it’s own, if Fyfe cops a fine for the incident it’ll be his third for the year which makes for an auotmatic one-week suspension.

That would render Fyfe ineligible to win the Brownlow for the second year in the row, and through betting markets into chaos.

Fyfe has been the widely-held favourite for the Brownlow all year long on the back of some blistering form in the first half of the year.

While his form has cooled off a little as the year has continued, it’s commonly believed that his early-year form will be enough for him to hold out for a win on Brownlow night.

However, if he cops a suspension for this incident then he will be ineligible, opening up a wide range of potential Brownlow winners.

Dan Hannebery would probably be the next leading contender for the medal after a stellar season with the Sydney Swans so far, but there would be others in close competition.

Matt Priddis, who won the 2014 Brownlow, would be in contention to go back-to-back after another great season for West Coast. He’s a well-loved favourite of the umpires and sure to poll well.

Sam Mitchell has had an excellent year also and after missing out on so many occasions in the past, this could be his year if the cards fall in his favour.

Todd Goldstein – who kicked a game-sealing goal on the siren in North’s big win – could well be in contention too after what some see as one of the best seasons as a ruckman in history.

Patrick Dangerfield has also had a remarkable year playing for the Adelaide Crows and would be a chance after polling well in the last three counts.
