Jarryd Hayne has already proven his first pre-season game was no fluke with a stunning first quarter against the Dallas Cowboys.

Hayne had three punt returns for 84 yards against the Cowboys in the first 15 minutes defeating six defenders in the process. It may only be pre-season but Hayne’s efforts sent the commentators into a spin including the classic line on his first punt return of “G’day mate”.

More importantly, Hayne had the home fans in San Francisco cheering his every move and his impressive speed and evasive skills will make it hard to resist placing him in the 53-man roster.

His first return went 27 yards and helped the 49ers set up for the opening points with a field goal. Hayne followed it up with a 34-yard return, weaving in and out of defenders by stepping on a dime.

Hayne is used to returning the ball as a fullback in the NRL, but with the extra help of blockers Hayne has shown how dangerous he could be in the NFL.

Highlighting just how big Hayne’s first quarter was is the fact the longest San Francisco punt return in 2014 was 23 yards by Bruce Ellington, which Hayne bettered three times.

The 27-year-old continued to show his versatility as the game wore on, making another 34-yard run as a running back in the third quarter.
