With the Wallabies vs Scotland game from the quarter finals of the Rugby World Cup, ingested, digested, spat out, reingested, redigested, spat out again and then peered over for scraps, it’s time to reveal the results of our DIY player ratings from Monday.

The ratings this week slip back down the scale – many thought the Wallabies weren’t at their best. They were probably right, and much of this blame lay in the forwards. Matt Giteau, Tevita Kuridrani, Drew Mitchell and Kurtley Beale all scored well.

On the other hand, players like Michael Hooper (who I thought was good around the park, if not that effective at the breakdown) and Kane Douglas, not to mention Scott Sio, got pretty shaken up with the ratings.

At first I baulked at James Slipper’s rating, then I remembered the terrible crimes he’d committed. But he did strengthen the scrum when he came on. Anyway – tough marks for James.

Bernard Foley’s match-winning kick saved him from what would have been a worse score.

Some of the bench made some impact, but not enough to score higher than their starting counterparts.

Here are some interesting factlets…

Sure, Quade Cooper mightn’t have played, but that didn’t stop him from getting a curiously high percentage of 1s and 10s. He got many more 1s, for example than either Matt Toomua or Sean McMahon (who also didn’t play), or even James Slipper, who was a massive 1 magnet with his botched pass.

Quade also got more 10s, by a factor of plenty, with 21 people giving Quade a 10. Well played Quade. Or badly played… Or not played at all.

Anyway, let’s not let weird things about Quade hijack this discussion.

Kurtley Beale had the best average of 7.5, and every player scored at least one 1 and one 10, except for Ben McCalman, who couldn’t convince anyone to give him a 10 despite what was a pretty good performance. Interesting.

My screenshotting machine is out of order right now, so the pretty graphs will be on their way if I can get the crank working.
