WATCH: Melbourne gift Newcastle easiest of tries after sloppy passing error
Jackson Hastings pounced on the loose ball to set up Newcastle's first points through Dylan Lucas.
Gold Coast winger Kevin Gordon has been forced into premature retirement because of a chronic hip injury.
Gordon has hung up his boots at just 25 after managing six NRL games in 2015 because of injury and poor form.
A local junior, Gordon was known as one of the fastest men in rugby league throughout his career.
“It’s unfortunate that Kev’s career has ended prematurely because of a degenerative hip condition that has really given him ongoing problems, particularly the past couple of seasons, which affected his agility and ability to stay on the paddock,” Titans coach Neil Henry said.
“On his day he was an outstanding winger and a great contributor to this club and a real personality as well.
“He can be proud of his NRL achievements which include over 100 games and 50 tries for the Titans and I’m sure he will put his abundant energy into other areas.”
Gordon debuted for the Gold Coast in 2009 and played 118 games for the club.
He was one year into a three-year deal worth a reported $350,000-a-season.
He also received viral fame for an internet video of him riding a carpet which has racked up almost 500,000 views on YouTube.
