Australia are through to the quarter-finals at the Dubai Sevens tournament but didn’t have it all their own way as they went 2-1 and finished second in Pool D on the first day.

Nearly upset by Kenya in their first match, Australia were down 0-12 at one stage but fought back to claim a 14-12 victory in the second half.

The team was then dominant against Wales in their second match, recording an impressive 43-0 victory to make it two wins in a row.

However they couldn’t make it three from three when they faced England in their finals pools match, going down 5-21.

Australia will now play Fiji in the quaterfinals, with the match scheduled for 6:00pm AEDT when the second day of the tournament begins later this afteroon.
