America’s Major League Soccer final began in extraordinary circumstances when Columbus Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark made a meal out of a simple back pass in the first 27-seconds.

For some reason, Clark tried to dribble the ball around Portland’s Diego Valeri before it all went horribly wrong.

His first touch was poor and Valeri took advantage by sliding in to complete the embarrassment for Clark. It was, not surprisingly, the fastest opening goal in MLS history.

Before Clark could even regain his composure, the Portland side doubled its advantage at the six minute mark.

In a frantic first 20-minutes, Columbus shook off the disappointment to get on the scoreboard, but that’s how it would stay.

The Portland Timbers claiming the title 2-1, ensuring the match will always be remembered for Steve Clark’s blunder.
