Newcastle United remain near the foot of the English Premier League table, but their survival hopes have been boosted after securing a 2-0 win over Liverpool on Monday morning (AEDT) at St James’ Park.
An own goal to Martin Skrtel off a Georginio Wijnaldum cross opened the scoring for Newcastle with just 20 minutes remaining, before a goal to Wijnaldum in injury time sealed the upset.
The loss sees Liverpool sitting seventh on the EPL table after 15 matchdays.
