In 2016 The Roar – on behalf of our excellent team of live bloggers – will be working our way through every game of the NRL season and assigning votes on a 3-2-1 basis. We are building towards the goal of crowning our very own NRL MVP.

Operating on the same system as the NRL’s Dally M Medal, our NRL MVP will also provide a handy predictor for who is in line to win the League’s highest individual honour come the end of the season.

Every Tuesday Morning, all the votes will be published right here and the leaderboard will be updated every weekend.

3: Corey Oates – Oates scored one try and set up another during the Broncos first half rampage. He made plenty of other big runs and was solid in defence.

2: Matt Gillett – Gillett was dangerous with the ball in hand, and did a very strong job for the Broncos in defence throughout, not missing a tackle all game.

1: Josh McGuire – McGuire, in his first game back from an injury that rubbed him out of the second half of last season, was dominant. He would make 30 tackles and 18 hitups, running for a total of 176 metres.

3: James Graham – In a Bulldogs pack that was supposed to be over sized, Graham stood up playing 75 minutes. He made 29 runs for 230 metres and contributed 38 tackles in a monster game.

2: Josh Reynolds – Although it was only the first game of the season, Reynolds looks to have matured. He made two try assists, 18 tackles and was dangerous with his running game.

1: Moses Mbye – Mbye, like Reynolds made two try assists always looking dangerous with the ball in the hand, and stepped up to the plate making four from six conversions.

3: Aidan Sezer – Sezer controlled the game beautifully all day. His kicking game was on, and he scored two tries. Playing the second half without Blake Austin who was injured, he controlled the situation perfectly.

2: Josh Hodgson – The Canberra number nine made 32 tackles and seven runs, getting his forwards over the advantage line at every opportunity. Also kept a cool head when he was moved into the halves during the second half.

1: Bryce Cartwright – Cartwright never stopped trying for the Panthers. He was dynamic with the ball, setting up a try. He played 80 minutes and made 27 tackles to go with the offence.

3: Marika Koroibete – It is fair to say the Storm wouldn’t have won the game without Koroibete in attack. He got the better of Josh Dugan scoring a first half double after the Storm got off to a slow start.

2: Tyson Frizell – Frizell was excellent in defence, making 35 tackles and scored the try that brought the Dragons back into the match during the second half.

1: Billy Slater – In his first game back from an extended injury that rubbed him out of the second half of last season showed what the Storm were missing. Was incredibly safe under the high ball and looked dangerous in attack.
