Match preview:

The Brumbies host the Chiefs in what shapes as the match of the round. Join The Roar for all the action from 7:45pm (AEDT).

The off-field issues the Brumbies have been dealing recently have been well documented, and the side has spoken of this galvanising the squad.

Tonight’s performance could provide an indication whether this is the case, or if distractions are having an impact on the organisation’s on-field branch.

The Chiefs have also had their struggles, notably with injury, but have also had to endure a heavy travel schedule in the past month, which could affect them as the match progresses.

However, the Kiwi side has thrilled in recent weeks with their attacking play, seeing several players touted as possible All Black prospects, most notably Charlie Ngatai and Damian McKenzie. Their performances against a quality, experienced Brumbies outfit could go a long way to enhancing those claims.

One particular match-up to focus on will be the battle of the opensides, with the Brumbies’ David Pocock up against the heir apparent to Richie McCaw’s throne, Sam Cane. More than just determine tonight’s winner, this battle will likely provide an insight into future Bledisloe Cup fixtures.

Pocock’s strength over the ball will be vital for the Brumbies in robbing the Chiefs of momentum. However if the Chiefs gain quick ball throughout the match, it could be a long night for the ACT side.

The Brumbies have named a strong side, with the only notable omission being Henry Speight, who is still injured, while the Chiefs are missing a few of their bigger drawcards, most notably Brodie Retallick.

Prediction
Home advantage and a smaller injury list should see the Brumbies squeak through.

Brumbies by 3.
