'Gal's saying Melbourne were robbed': Even Paul Gallen was fired up over Grant's 'very harsh' binning
Cronulla great Paul Gallen couldn't even get on board with this highly controversial sin bin.
Cronulla have overcome two controversial obstruction calls and their own ill-discipline to eke out a dramatic 34-26 NRL win over Wests Tigers.
The Sharks were leading 18-16 in the 50th minute when Ricky Leutele was denied a try due to Paul Gallen impeding Kevin Naiqama as he went to tackle Chris Heighington.
Four minutes later Gallen, in his first match back from a four-week lay-off with a knee injury, was then forced to give up on a play after running into Chris Lawrence.
James Tedesco strolled through the gap to give the Tigers a two-point lead.
However an irate Gallen, whose troops were twice pinged for backchatting in the second half, had the last laugh when he took a face-ball from Michael Ennis to cross beside the posts and steal back the lead for good.
Tensions continued to escalate with Gallen again involved in drama, a scuffle that ended in James Maloney attempting a penalty goal.
His shot rebounded off the post only for the unprepared Tigers to again lose the ball and then their cool close to the line. The error gifted Maloney an easier shot and subsequently, a six-point lead.
Ben Barba sealed the win with a try in the 70th minute, while Moses nabbed a late consolation four-pointer.
Tedesco survived an opening-minute concussion scare to inspire his side to a 16-6 advantage inside the half hour-mark.
The NSW State of Origin fancy was floored by an accidental Luke Lewis knee while retrieving an awkward Michael Ennis kick. He stayed down for a handful of minutes before being helped from the ground.
The incident hushed the 12,831 crowd and unsettled Tedesco’s teammates. They spilled the ball upon the restart and conceded a try to Lewis later in the set.
However Tedesco made an instant impact upon return, setting up David Nofoaluma with just his second touch of the match.
Tigers centre Tim Simona was put on report in the 77th minute for a crusher tackle on Valentin Holmes.
