Match result:

It was a great win for the Warriors on Saturday against a premiership contender and hopefully this allows New Zealand to go on a winning run.

The Bulldogs competed hard but even they will struggle to back up from Monday night football. The curse continues.

REPORT: WARRIORS HANG ON FOR WIN

Final score
Bulldogs 20
Warriors 24

Match preview:

The Canterbury Bulldogs are coming off a short turnaround but showed enough against Melbourne on Monday night to suggest they have what it takes to defeat the inconsistent New Zealand Warriors away from home. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5.30pm AEST.

It will be interesting to see how the Bulldogs back up from a gruelling Monday night performance that saw them defeat the Storm 18-12 at AAMI Park.

Teams in the past have struggled severely to back up from Monday night football, and the Bulldogs face a tough ask flying to New Zealand to take on the Warriors barely five days after playing Melbourne.

With that said, the Bulldogs are one of the NRL’s toughest teams mentally and physically and should be favoured to show up with the professionalism required to defeat the Warriors today.

After stringing wins together against Newcastle and Sydney, the Warriors once again underperformed at home last week, losing convincingly to Manly.

Despite all their star power on paper, the Warriors just can’t seem to put in a complete 80-minute performance this season. At times, they play like a team expecting to win but they are not putting in the hard yards required to earn victory.

The Bulldogs, however, are masters of the arm-wrestle as evidenced by their superb win over Melbourne on Monday night. The Storm dominated possession, territory and the penalty count and still could not find a way to defeat a Canterbury team that was desperate for the two competition points.

Forwards such as James Graham and David Klemmer led the way superbly for Canterbury last week and should be expected to chip in with strong performances this week.

The short Monday night turnaround, however, does level the playing field this evening. In spite of their strong efforts, the Bulldogs may struggle to replicate the intensity shown against Melbourne given the short turnaround.

As a result, the Warriors at their best could scrape home with a win here. Anything less though and the Bulldogs will win well.
