Australian-based Socceroos will be out to impress against England with the potential to catch the eye of big clubs, which is a strong possibility.
The match is one of England’s major matches in the lead up to Euro 2016 and all eyes will be on the Socceroos, including those players looking to move their club careers to Europe.
Josh Risdon, Aaron Mooy, Stefan Mauk and Jamie Maclaren will be hoping to catch the eye as they all look to further their careers abroad.
Risdon has been a solid right-back for Perth Glory for several seasons now, having debuted way back in 2010. Now at 23 years of age, his recent form coupled with his potential could mean some offers from Europe come his way.
Risdon is almost certain to start against England with no other right-back named in the squad. He recently signed a contract extension with Perth Glory though if the right offer came his way, he’d surely take it.
Mooy is almost undoubtedly the best Australian A-League player. He is a shining star whenever he plays and is almost certain to pursue a career abroad in the next few months.
He could move to England through Melbourne City’s parent club Manchester City but regardless, there will be plenty of clubs eager to get him playing for them next season.
Mauk has impressed in midfield for Adelaide United and represents a very young option for Ange Postecoglou. At only 20 he certainly has the world ahead of him and a Socceroos call-up at his age bodes well for the future.
While it may be another year or so before Mauk is looking for an overseas move, this game will definitely get him noticed and potentially shortlisted for seasons to come.
Maclaren is the other looking to prove he’s got what it takes. Australia’s best scorer in the A-League, Maclaren is still young but has an eye for goal that most managers would love to work with.
He will almost certainly make the biggest impact of the four uncapped players and could find himself fielding offers should he put in a good appearance.
Australia will be hoping to replicate their victory against England in 2003 with a win this year, although a strong English side awaits them.
Australia, in comparison, are missing some of their regulars with Asian-based players not available for selection.
The match will be played at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland on May 27.
