After naming an extended, 11-man bench, Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has named his team to face England at AAMI Park on Saturday night, trimming two experienced Wallabies and a young man headed overseas.

James Horwill, Wycliff Palu and Liam Gill are the unlucky three to be cut, with Dean Mumm and Ben McCalman the preferred forward options.

It’s an interesting development, given Horwill was recalled from English club Harlequins to take part in the three-Test series, while Gill has announced he will move from the Reds to French club Toulon at the conclusion of the Super Rugby season.

It means Cheika’s entire matchday 23 play for Australian clubs, despite having the luxury of selecting players either intending to move overseas, or those based abroad who have played 60 Tests and spent at least seven seasons playing Super Rugby.

In other news, Luke Morahan looks set to add to his solitary cap, earned in 2012, while Nick Frisby is also preparing for just his second stint in Wallaby gold.
