It might have been a local German league game, but that doesn’t stop records being broken, or goalkeepers being arrested for that matter and when 43 goals are scored in 90 minutes of football it’s not hard to see why.

SV Vonderort (I’ll let you work out the name!) turned up for their local derby match against PSV Oberhausen full of confidence, but were feeling a little bit flat by halftime after conceding nearly a goal a minute.

By the main break, Marco Kwiotek had let in a massive 35 goals and you could only imagine what must have been said at halftime.

While he ‘only’ allowed another eight to pass through in the second half, police found reason to arrest him when the team turned up for training during the week.

In fact, it wasn’t just police. They were armed law-enforcement officers, and they dragged him straight out of goals during practice. Of course, what he was still doing practicing as a goalkeeper we will never know.

While it should be mentioned they only had eight players on the field at times during the match, conceding 43 goals is still an incredible figure.

This isn’t the record for the most goals ever scored in a match internationally, but it is in Germany. The overall record belongs to Madagascan team AS Adema who piled on 149 goals, but that was marred by their opposition fixing the match in protest over refereeing decisions.

Either way, the police are yet to release Kwiotek or issue a comment on why he was arrested and his club are confused as to why there was a need to take the goalkeeper into custody.

As he was led away, Kwiotek yelled to his teammates that ‘they just wanted to clear some things up’. Unfortunately for the goalie, it might be more than that – but then again the alternative, suiting up to play again on the weekend probably doesn’t excite him either.
