The New Zealand All Blacks have beaten South Africa 57-15 at Kings Park in Durban overnight, in what was a dark day for international rugby union.

The reigning World Champions are breaking records along the way to send an ominous warning to the wider rugby union fraternity of how dangerous they are, and how far behind the rest of the world is.

A record-equalling 17 matches it has been since the All Blacks were last beaten, and will play their next match on home soil at Eden Park in Auckland in just a couple weeks time against the under performing Wallabies.

After beating Australia 18-10 last weekend it seemed as though South Africa had turned a corner during the Rugby Championship, however they would need to drastically improve against the world’s number one ranked team, an improvement they just couldn’t make in time.

The game was in the balance at the half time break with a poor kicking display by Beauden Barrett with the wind at his back, while Morne Steyn kicked into the wind brilliantly to keep the home side in the contest behind 12-9.

A second half blitz by the All Blacks however saw them secure their sixth-straight bonus point victory, while also breaking their record for biggest winning margin against South Africa (previously 36 points), and the most points piled against South Africa (57 – previously 55).

Only an unselfish act by Beauden Barrett, who popped the ball up to Ben Smith to score a try midway through the second half, stopped another record falling during the match with no All Black ever scoring three tries against the Sprinboks, despite 18 players scoring two.

Barrett, All Black winger Israel Dagg and TJ Perenara all added their name to the list and were all in the hunt to break the record before late tries to Codie Taylor, Ben Smith and Liam Squire saw the All Blacks break the 50-mark.

With South Africa arguably the second best team in world rugby, the overnight result must send an ominous warning to all others who stand in the All Blacks’ way as they already start the campaign for a third straight World Cup.
