Young excellence, promotion battles, and a happy farewell: The Australian team of the week from players around the globe
Even though St.Pauli ultimately lost a high-scoring affair, Jackson Irvine was a standout, as well as scoring a late goal.
Socceroos stars Robbie Kruse and Matt Ryan will look to exit their current clubs in January, in a bid to find more regular football.
Both players have struggled for game time this season and the pair’s positions within the Socceroos could be at risk if they cannot make more regular club appearances.
Ryan has been second choice goalkeeper at Valencia all season and has barely had a look in against number one choice Diego Alves.
Still only 24 years of age, Ryan is yet to reach his prime and will be looking to find himself a regular starting spot in another club.
A return to Club Brugge, Ryan’s former club has been suggested but other opportunities would surely surface for the player, given his proven talent.
Liverpool were at one point interested in signing him and even sent scouts to watch him during the 2015 Asian Cup.
The former Central Coast keeper has a UK passport, meaning that he is not restricted by non-EU squad limits, meaning more European clubs would be interested in the player.
Robbie Kruse’s situation is slightly more urgent as a 28-year-old.
Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has warned Kruse that he will need to find more playing time if he wishes to cement his spot in the national team.
Kruse has been based in Germany since 2011 and could even link up with Mitchell Langerak at Stuttgart, where he spent a few months on loan, last season.
His contract is due to expire at the end of the season meaning he will be more affordable for clubs looking to permanently sign the player.
Kruse has ruled out a return to the A-League in the near future but has said little else about his likely destination.
Both Ryan and Kruse will be monitored closely during the January transfer window, both by fans and clubs alike.
Both players have made four appearances each for the Socceroos in this current phase of World Cup qualifying.

What if we celebrated all of the achievements big and small, and weeded out those hell-bent on bringing down a game that is doing a hell of a lot right?
