Australia take on England in the all-important opening match of the Rugby League World Cup. This is The Roar‘s ultimate guide to streaming the match online and watching it on TV.

The match is set to be played at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium (known as AAMI Park outside of international tournaments), with kick-off scheduled for 8pm (AEDT) tonight.

This will be the only match played on the opening day of the tournament, with the old enemies to kick off the World Cup.

Australia are one of the favourites to win the entire competition and have been in great form, having won their last six matches.

Australia has taken the past ten matchups between the two sides but England has given them trouble at times, including a Four Nations match in 2014 where Australia narrowly survived 16-12.

England will be under the coaching of Wayne Bennett for the tournament, while veteran Sean O’Loughlin will captain the side.

The winner of this contest is expected to finish first in Group A, which also includes France and Lebanon, while the runner-up will most likely come in second, ensuring a tougher route to the final, which will be played on Saturday, December 2 in Brisbane.

How to watch the match on TV

Channel Seven will be broadcasting 26 of the 28 World Cup matches live on free-to-air TV, with two set to be shown on delay.

This match will be live on the Seven Network across the country, however, the exact channel will depend on your location. Luckily, we have done the investigation so you don’t have to.

In New South Wales and Victoria, the match will be shown on Seven, with a preview beginning on 7Mate at 7pm (AEDT) and then moving to Channel Seven (found on stations 7 and 70) at 7:30pm (AEDT).

If you’re watching from Queensland, those times will be an hour earlier for you due to daylight savings, meaning coverage will start at 6pm (AEST).

The match will be shown on 7Mate in both Adelaide (from 6:30pm ACDT) and Perth (4pm AWST) and Southern Cross TV in Hobart (7:30pm AEDT) and Darwin (6pm ACST).

How to live stream the match online

The only way to stream the match in Australia will be by using Channel Seven’s online streaming services, either through their 7Live website or through their mobile application – either 7Live or Plus7.

The mobile application is available on both Android and Apple devices and is downloadable from all application stores for free.

Unlike during the NRL season, the NRL Live Pass will not be providing a live stream of the action, and there is no official way to stream the matches on the Rugby League World Cup’s website.

The Roar will be providing a live blog and The Roar TV will have highlights during and after the match.
