The Matildas face Thailand in an international friendly at nib Stadium in Perth. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 9.00pm (AEDT).

After some criticism around the lack of organised fixtures for the Socceroos before they head overseas for major competitions, the Matilda’s aren’t complaining and bubbling to play in front of a parochial crowd in Perth.

Local girl Sam Kerr has been talking this game up for weeks and while the high flying Matildas will still be annoyed at the way the Algarve Cup panned out for them, the failure to get a crack at the final despite being undefeated, they will be more than ready for this one.

Almost assuredly, Australia will win this game, with Thailand not in the same class but hopefully that translates into a few goals to entertain the crowd.

It will be an important hit out for the team with the Asian Champions League looming and some tough group matches awaiting.

The match could also prove a chance for Australia to improve its bid for the 2023 Women’s Football World Cup.

“This is a bit of an audition for us for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. So hopefully we can win that bid and Perth can put its best foot forward as a host city for that,” said Matildas coach Alen Stajcic.

“It’ll be a fantastic event. I think it’ll be one that can transcend sport and football in this country and hopefully we can put on as good a show as we have in our recent times with all our major events.

“Hopefully we can get a full stadium, 20,000 plus [fans] and I think that’ll be the best way Perth and Western Australia can show that it wants to be a host city in five-years’ time.”

Prediction
The Matildas will be far too good for the Thais tonight.

Australia 7, Thailand 0
