With Round 1 games completed, I nominate the events that have captured my imagination.

‘Pendles’ now Top 10
Collingwood Captain Scott Pendlebury moved into the upper echelon at the ‘pies on Saturday night.

He equalled the game tally of Harry Collier who was awarded the Brownlow Medal retrospectively, having originally lost it on a count back to Stan Judkins (Richmond) in 1930.

This award was won by his younger brother Albert Collier in 1929 and they still remain the only two brothers to have won the award.

Debutantes on display: Forty five players took the field for the first time at their ‘new’ club in Round 1. Twenty of them had been on another club’s list in 2017.

‘Gibbo’ misses with injury
After 130 games in succession since his debut for North Melbourne, Sam Gibson had to pull out of his debut game for Adelaide.

He was the clubhouse leader for current day players. This mantle now falls to Zach Toohey (116 games with Geelong) with Brandon Ellis (Richmond) Shaun Burgoyne (Hawthorn) and Justin Westoff (Port Adelaide) also being in the 100+ successive games category.

Games Milestones achieved
Joel Selwood (Geelong) 250, Jack Gunston (Hawthorn) 150, Mitch Robinson (Carlton and Brisbane – including his 50th with Brisbane) 150, Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs) 100 and Dean Towers 50 games.

Also Shaun Grigg bought up his 150th game for the Tigers, and Tim Membrey his 50th game for St Kilda.

Kade Simpson’s achievement
Those who have read my previous article, will know that Simpson is now equal fifth on the all time record of games played for Carlton. form on Friday He should pass ‘Harry’ Madden and also join Peter Riccardi (Geelong) on the AFL all time list.

Gold Coast now has Top 100
Lachie Weller, Aaron Young and Nick Holman became the 98th, 99th and 100th players for Gold Coast Suns when they ran out to play against North Melbourne on the weekend.

Jack streaks the pack
Jack Riewoldt – with four goals – has now opened up a gap on the Eddie Betts (0 goals), Jarryd Roughead (1) and Josh Kennedy (DNP). He climbed above John Coleman (Essendon) and Lindsay White (South Melbourne and Geelong) to 47th position on the all time list.

Jamie Macmillan escapes the “hot seat”. In the last game he played last year, North Melbourne’s Jamie Macmillan climbed into 100th place on the club’s players list.

With this weekend’s game he has now joined John Brady and Leigh Brown in equal 98th position.

Milestones
Congratulations to Michael Walters (Fremantle) on scoring his 200th goal and Josh Caddy who kicked the three goals he needed to bring up 100 goals in his career.
Goals on Debut: Also congratulations to the 16 players who goaled on debut in Round 1.
