No golfer has cracked 70 in all four rounds at 81 Masters tournaments, so Patrick Reed is all set to create history.

After rounds of 69 68 67, don’t be surprised if Reed fires in a final round 66 tomorrow, he’s a feisty competitor.

He’s proved that with two eagles and nine birdies on the 12 par fives to date – 13 under making a big hole in the 14 under he takes into Sunday at Augusta.

Reed leads by three over Rory McIlroy, who like Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm threw three 65s at Reed, who never flinched.

While Reed has the record in his grasp, McIlroy needs to win the Masters to complete the grand slam of golfing majors, shared by Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.

With so much at stake, it’s fitting Reed and McIlroy will be the final pairing in the deciding round.

The par fives will be critical.

Reed’s 13 under clearly shows the way, but McIlroy is eight-under for the 12 par fives.

There’s five the diff, and Reed leads by three for tomorrow.

Despite a swirling wind, and plenty of rain, this third round produced spectacular golf.

The McIlroy, Fowler, and Rahm 65s were flawless, and were very nearly joined by Englishman Tommy Fleetwood who had seven birdies, only to bogey the last for a 66.

Marc Leishman, who started the day two shots behind Reed, was the downside of the third round, carding a one-over 73 to fall eight shots off the pace.

Leishman bogeyed the seventh and had 17 pars, but six putts finished either in the jaw, or shaved the hole. The Australian just couldn’t take a trick all day.

The same could be said about Swede Henrik Stenson who shot 70 to be 7-under, but he too had no luck with the flat stick.

The other surprises were Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas who were expected to leap up the leader-board, but in the main they were treading water.

It’s had to see Reed or McIlroy being beaten, so their virtual match-play in the final group promises fireworks.

Apart from Leishman, there were three other Australians who made the cut.

Cameron Smith, the junior of the quartet, has the best result with 71 72 70 for three-under, Jason Day has shot 75 71 69 for one-under, and former champion Adam Scott’s 75 73 70 has him two-over.

The Masters leader-board after three rounds:

14-under – Patrick Reed 69 68 67.
11-under – Rory McIlroy 89 71 65.
9-under – Rickie Fowler 70 72 65.
8-under – Jon Rahm 75 68 65.
7-under – Henrik Stenson 69 70 70.
6-under – Marc Leishman 70 67 73, Bubba Watson 71 69 68.
