About the only thing Collingwood’s top 100 goal scorer Steele Sidebottom didn’t do on Friday night against Adelaide was kick a goal.

In an outstanding display of over 40 possessions, he should have picked up some more Brownlow votes. As far as goal kicking goes, the highlight was Jaidyn Stephenson’s first goal in AFL football, followed by four more.

Ben Reid’s two goals moved him closer to being a top 100 goal kicker at the Pies and he would be hoping to achieve the double (top 100 games and top 100 goals) by the end of the season.

For Adelaide, “Tex” Walker scored two which took him closer to the AFL top 100 all-time goal kickers but did not alter his position on the club’s list. Mitch McGovern’s two goals, however, not only took him past teammate David Mackay but also past Shaun Rehn, David Brown and the great Wayne Carey and he now sits just outside the Crows’ Top 40 goalkickers level with Nathan Bock.

The Greater Western Sydney and Fremantle match was also not remarkable from a goal kicking point-of-view except that Greater Western Sydney’s Jeremy Cameron moved closer to the 300 goal milestone and #2 on the Giants’ list and Toby Greene increased his lead over #3 (Jonathan Patton) to six goals.

For Fremantle, Aaron Sandilands also moved closer to a goal kicking milestone and is now only five goals away from the century. Bailey Banfield opened his goal kicking account with the Dockers with his first goal in the AFL.

Dustin Martin’s six goals (his best haul ever) took him past former Tiger captain Bruce Monteath and level on 199 goals with Bob Dummett, a full forward at the club from 1956 to 1961. Dummett led the club’s goalkicking in 1956, 1957 and 1959.

He was recruited from Ivanhoe Grammar, started in Richmond’s Under 19s and played in two premierships with the Reserves team before making his senior debut.

Dusty Martin now sits just outside the top 20 goal kickers of all time for the Richmond Football Club.

Despite the miserly return of two goals achieved by Brisbane, Dayne Zorko’s goal was important. It took him to level with Tim Notting, just one spot outside the top ten goalkickers at the Lions.

However, the difference between 11th and 10th position is 32 goals, so it is problematic whether Zorko – despite his good form – will be able to bridge this gap by the end of the 2018 season.

For the other goal scorer on the day, Cameron Rayner, it took his total goals scored at the Lions to three.
