The Newcastle Knights’ nail-biting 22-20 win over the Wests Tigers was clouded by a severe injury to in-form halfback Mitchell Pearce.

Fans held their breath awaiting results on his pectoral injury but the news was not positive.

The Knights have pinpointed a timeframe for Pearce’s return at 16 weeks. Although this is technically not a season-ending injury, if Pearce was to remain on the sideline for that duration, he’d be looking at a Round 23 return.

Connor Watson is currently sidelined with shoulder dislocation troubles, so times are looking glum for the Newcastle faithful.

Are the Parramatta Eels and North Queensland Cowboys back on track?
In Round 7, both the Eels and Cowboys found themselves back in the winners’ circle after convincing wins over the Manly Sea Eagles and Gold Coast Titans.

Both teams desperately needed the two points, especially Parramatta, and after some lacklustre performances, both looked back to their old selves.

Convincing wins such as these are the perfect way to get back on track, but considering the way the beaten oppositions played, fans should not jump the gun just yet.

Was Billy Slater’s controversial try a try?
During Melbourne’s win over the Broncos, Billy Slater appeared to have dropped the ball, but proceeded to score a try.

He shook his head and told teammates he did not score, believing the dropped ball would be deemed a knock on. The bunker had a different interpretation and found sufficient evidence that the ball dropped onto Slater’s foot and therefore was a kick, making his try legal.

Many fans have taken screenshots of the moment or slowed down the footage to argue that the ball hit the ground and should be considered a knock on. There is a lot up for debate. Did Slater knock on or was it a drop kick? Should Slater have commented on the moment?

Should Sam Burgess be suspended for two weeks?
On Saturday night, Sam Burgess returned to the field after a two-week suspension for elbowing Josh Morris in the throat. He now faces another fortnight on the sidelines after a tackle on Aidan Sezer was deemed high.

It’s been said that, due to Sam’s judiciary form, the suspension should be longer than two weeks to send a message to Burgess to tidy his game. On the other hand, some believe Burgess’ hit was legal as Sezer was falling and the initial contact was to the chest.

Burgess said, “Personally, I didn’t think there was anything in it”, making it the second time this year he has claimed he did nothing wrong. Is this an issue?

Should more games take place in locations such as Tamworth?
The Tigers and Knights travelled to Tamworth for their match on Saturday evening, with the ‘sold out’ sign plastered outside Scully Park days before kick-off.

Whether or not their team won, many fans said they would definitely make the trip again. The venue is a classic, feel-good, suburban stadium that keeps the fans close to the action. There isn’t a bad seat in the house – in fact, some locals even sat on the rooves of nearby houses to watch the match. That alone shows how much the people of Tamworth wanted to be at this game, no matter who they supported.
