The Newcastle Jets and Melbourne City meet in a match to decide the first team through to the A-League grand final. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEST).

Playing in front of a packed house will be a fitting atmosphere for the first of the A-League semi-finals, as Newcastle fans attempt to rally their troops and move them into the last match of the season.

McDonald Jones Stadium will be rocking and Melbourne City will do well to cancel out the crowd with an early goal – and even that might not be enough to silence the Novocastrians.

Without much sparkling form against top opposition of late, Newcastle are something of a mystery in this one. If they slip back into top gear after only one win in the last month, it will be amazing.

On the other side of the ledger, City have been building well and look to have a steely resolve as they attempt to finally fulfil the dream of their long-suffering fans.

Dimi Petratos and Roy O’Donovan will be the weapons for Newcastle and the dangers for City, while Daniel Arzani and Bruno Fornaroli will provide the headaches for the home team.

Prediction
As a semi-final should be, this is incredibly close to call and both sides have a realistic chance of winning.

But City have been better in their three prior match-ups and are yet to suffer defeat. Their solid defence has held and I can see that pattern continuing.
