The last three Saturday games of Round 11 could all have been classified as thrashings if it wasn’t for the seven-goal comeback by St Kilda in the late game against the West Coast Eagles in Perth.

Exactly eight goals down at three-quarter-time, the Saints showed what they are capable of but have not yet produced so far this year.

The catalyst for the comeback was Tim Membrey. He kicked his 100th goal earlier in the game and finished with six for the day. After having the yips for a number of weeks, he slotted the six through without a miss.

His six goals not only took him past 100 goals and current teammate Jack Steven, but he also passed ex-teammate Brendon Goddard (now with Essendon), Lance Oswald, Rod Owen and Gary Lofts.

Another player to bring up his 100th goal in the game was West Coast Eagles star Nic Naitanui, who scored two to finish on 101. Jamie Cripps also kicked a goal, which took him to level with the great Chris Judd on the Eagles all-time top 100 goal-kickers list.

As an aside, Judd is also on Carlton’s top 100 goal-kickers list, but he’s in the hot seat at the Blues as equal 100th with Chris Yarran and under threat of losing his goal-kicking seat at the Blues top 100 functions. At this stage the biggest threat is Matthew Kreuzer.

The leading goal-scorer of all time at the Eagles, Josh Kennedy, continued his matchwinning form, booting six goals, expanding his lead at West Coast, and drawing him level with Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead on the AFL’s all-time list at 49.

Mark LeCras chimed in with two goals to take his tally to 430 goals, still third on the Eagles goal kicking list.

The other two matches, despite the thrashings handed out by Geelong to Gold Coast and Richmond to Essendon, still managed to produce some highlights.

The Geelong vs Gold Coast game featured two of the current AFL top 100 goal-kickers, with Tom Hawkins (72) and Gary Ablett (98) both playing for the Cats and scoring three goals each.

While this did not alter Hawkins’ and Ablett’s respective positions on either the AFL top 100 goal-scorers or the Geelong lists, others on the list saw some movement: Joel Selwood’s goal drew him level with Bob Davis. Patrick Dangerfield drew level with Alec Eason, who started at the Cats in 1909 and after missing the war years finished in 1921, and Bruce Nankervis (1970 to 1983).

For Gold Coast, the club’s leading goal-kicker, Tom Lynch, took his goal tally to within one of the 250-goal milestone.

In the Richmond vs Essendon game, Jack Riewoldt, fifth on the Richmond list and 40th on the AFL all-time list, kicked just the one goal. Josh Caddy continued his goal-scoring exploits from last week with another four goals but still remains well short of top-100 status. Dustin Martin and Shane Edwards were the two other Richmond top-100 goal scorers to add to their tallies in the game.

There were no top 100 goal-scorers for the Bombers, but Orazio Fantasia remains on target to join Essendon’s elite by the end of 2018.
