Defending champions Germany will be out to repeat their heroics of 2014 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. This is The Roar‘s guide to their matches, opponents, Australian kick-off times and broadcast details at the tournament.

Germany come into Russia as one of the pre-tournament favourites. Always one of the strongest and most consistent nations in major tournaments, anything less than a semi-final appearance will be a major disappointment, and Die Mannschaft will be optimistic of winning their fifth world title.

They’re currently ranked number one in the world and, after missing out on silverware in the last European championships, Joachim Low’s men will be desperate for another successful World Cup campaign.

2018 FIFA World Cup Draw – Germany

Game No. Group Date Time Match Venue Broadcast
10 F Mon 18 Jun 1:00 AM Germany vs Mexico Luzhniki Stadium SBS, Optus
29 F Sun 24 Jun 4:00 AM Germany vs Sweden Fisht Stadium Optus
42 F Thu 28 Jun 12:00 AM South Korea vs Germany Kazan Arena Optus

Unlike their relatively easy pool in 2014, the defending champions have been drawn in a somewhat difficult Group F alongside Mexico, Sweden and South Korea.

While Germany are the top ranked team in the world and obviously came out of Pot 1 when it came time to choose the groups, Mexico are no slouches either, ranked 15 in the world.

Sweden are ranked a little lower than that in 23rd, with South Korea just outside the top 50 in 61st spot.

While South Korea are expected to finish at the bottom and weaken the quality a little bit, Germany could be caused some issues if either Mexico or Sweden are on their day in the first two group games they have been tasked with.

It’s absolutely crucial Joachim Low’s men finish first. With Brazil in Group E, the runners-up of Group F will be tasked with facing the South American giants (should they top their group) in the quarter-final. Of course, a slip up from Brazil would leave the victors of Group F extremely vulnerable.

Should Germany top their group and beat either Switzerland, Serbia or Costa Rica, they will then be tasked with a quarter-final, likely to be against either Poland or England.

The Roar will be providing all the best live coverage during the FIFA World Cup, with blogs, highlights and analysis on each and every match.
