Match result:

A 1-0 win for Denmark over Peru in Group C has put them in a very nice position, poised to move forward into the Round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

They go into the match with the Socceroos knowing a win will pretty much put them through, but a draw gives them very much the inside running on qualifying.

That’s a significant tactical advantage for the Danes.

Peru deserve at least a point for all the entertainment they gave us – they do play a somewhat underwhelming France team next up so maybe they could shock the world.

They’ll likely be too much for the Socceroos to handle should they still be alive in the group by the time that game arrives.

Peru 0
Denmark 1

Peru and Denmark will go head-to-head in a Group C clash that could ultimately determine which of the two advances to the knockout stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

This will be the second match for Group C today and as a result Peru and Denmark enter this one with the advantage of having a little knowledge about the lay of the land.

Earlier on this matchday we saw the expected result of France defeating Australia, but it came about in an unexpected way.

The first two goals of the match were both scored only after the VAR intervened and awarded either side with a penalty.

For a while, it seemed like the Socceroos might hold out for a valiant draw – but France were able to break through for a goal from play in the later stages of the match, and Australia could find no answer.

As a result the French, one of the favourites to potentially take the crown here in Russia, are out to an early lead in Group C as did seem entirely likely.

All going as expected, only one of these sides will have the chance to get through to the round of 16 alongside the French – making this match crucial.

Peru enter as the slight favourites, but it looks like a contest that could go either way.

Prediction
Peru and Denmark are 11th and 12th in the world rankings respectively – pretty hard to separate! That makes a draw seem likely.

1-all draw.
