England have battered Panama 6-1 at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium to secure their place in the round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
As for Panama, their World Cup is over.
England were just far too good from the start until the end. John Stones got things underway with a headed goal after Kieran Trippier put in the perfect ball.
Panama shot themselves in the foot when they gave away a penalty, which Harry Kane put away with ease.
Jesse Lingard continued the form that he showed with Manchester United when he linked up with Raheem Sterling to fire one into the top right corner from outside the box.
England produced what was probably the team goal of the tournament on another Trippier set-piece. Stones was on the end of all the good work to get his second.
Panama made it even worse for themselves when they conceded another penalty, and with Kane in the form he is in, he wasn’t going to miss.
The second half saw Kane get his hat-trick, and it also saw Panama get their first World Cup finals goal through Felipe Baloy.
Final score
England: 6
Panama: 1

England started its World Cup campaign in dramatic fashion, but if you have followed England in recent times, you wouldn’t have been surprised.
It seemed as if they were destined for a 1-1 draw against Tunisia with the game still level going into the final minutes, but as he has done a number of times before, Harry Kane popped up and scored the winner, and with that, his second of the game.
It was such a big win for them and you could tell how much it meant when they were celebrating come the end of the game. There is always pressure on England from their own press, so they needed to start well.
They may have only clinched the game in the dying moments, but they actually played well. They quite easily could have scored a few more, but just lacked that clinical finish come the end.
With the exception of Harry Kane who scored the two goals, Jordan Henderson was excellent in midfield. An often uneducated criticism regarding the Englishman is his inability to pass, but it’s so far from the truth. He was pinging passes everywhere and looked like a top international player.
In team news for England, there is some doubt regarding Dele Alli after injuring his thigh which could rule him out. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is his potential replacement.
The big news is Raheem Sterling may be dropped after failing to have an impact in the opening game in favour of Marcus Rashford.
As for Panama, they showed they were resilient for large parts of their opening game against Belgium, but once they conceded, that was the end of it.
The 3-0 defeat wasn’t ideal for them, and they will be looking to redeem themselves against the English.
Roman Torres was a standout in the opening game in Panama’s defence, and one would expect he will need to be at his best again.
In team news, Panama have no injuries which leaves them with a full-strength squad to pick from.
Prediction
It is difficult to see Panama getting anything out of this. They showed against Belgium that once they concede one, then they just collapse.
England 3 Panama 0
